COMMITTEE MINUTESTROOP 175 & CAMP 175 INC. BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA DECATUR, GEORGIA CHARTERED 1943 |
November 1, 2004 Troop 175 Committee Meeting Minutes
Meeting was held at the home of Carol and Kelly Arnold.
Attending: Kelly Arnold, Harry DeMille (treasurer), Frank Golley, Charlie Gowing, Jeff Hayden, Jim Paulino (secretary), Jason Uchitel (scoutmaster), Eric Weber (chairman), Wayne Weeks (vice chair).
Harry opened the meeting with a prayer.
SecretaryÕs Report: The October minutes were approved as submitted.
TreasurerÕs Report: The Troop checking account contains $1,980.16.
Scoutmaster Report:
Jason reported that the Venture Crew is signed up for Philmont Scout Ranch on June 14, 2005. This is the week after summer Camp 175. The requirements are Star and 15 years of age at the time of the trip. Deposits of $350.00 are due immediately. The Venture Crew will put $50 deposits to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, for 9 slots. Jeremy Uchitel was able to get a 2 week extension to the fee deposit. Total costs around $900.
WE NEED TO KNOW NOW IF YOUR SCOUT WANTS TO BE A PART OF THIS HIGH ADVENTURE TRIP.
Some equipment from this past Philmont Trip is still outstanding. This includes 1 compass, 2 collapsible water containers and 2 nylon mesh bear bags. Please return all Troop 175 camping equipment. Please check your personal equipment in case you inadvertently have any of this Troop equipment.
The Troop donated some of itÕs used scout uniforms and equipment to Troop 310 in Eatonton, Georgia. If your son has outgrown uniforms, donating them to the Troop will run them through a recycle program.
There are 3 outings in the month of November. 1) Fall Camporee at Bert Adams Scout Reservation from the 12th to the 14th, 2) NESA advancement day to work on various merit badges on the 13th at a location TBA and 3) FloydÕs farm in Alabama on the 20th and 21st. If your Scout needs camping nights for advancement, this is an opportunity for three nights in one month.
December 11th will be the caving trip for a day.
The backpacking trip along the AT went well. It was a little bit wet and the scenery was shrouded by extremely low visibility. If your Scout is planning on a Philmont adventure trip, he needs to participate in these backpacking trips or he will have real trouble in the high Sierra mountains.
We need some of the boy leaders to step forward as Den Chiefs for Pack 175 and Pack 551. This is a good way to earn leadership credits while promoting Troop 175. Some of these Dens will cross over in March, so this could be a short term project.
We need more adults to step forward and help out with the driving for our camping activities. If you can drive one way, that will be a help. Please indicate what you are willing to do on the POOP SHEET for the trips.
Camp 175:
Jeff Hayden indicated that Camp 175 appears to be in good shape. Harry was checking into insurance for the camp. The church has asked to be relived of the electric bill and we have agreed to cover that. The property insurance on the Paine Lodge has become too expensive for the Camp to cover. We will ask if it can be added to the churchÕs policy and we would pay the additional charge directly to the church.
We should be hearing from the Corp of Eng. in December about the lease renewal.
High Adventure:
Northern Tier is tentatively schedule for the end of July 2005. We are planning on using a private outfitter so that we have greater flexibility in the venues. Need boys and adults to commit now.
Old Business:
The Troop Committee will be contacting adults to help out in various capacities. Nominating committee has made its nominations for the 2005 year and the Committee will vote on them at the December meeting.
New Business:
Scoutmaster search committee has selected Frank Golley to be the new Scoutmaster to replace Jason. Swearing in will take place during the annual banquet, which is scheduled for February 4th in the church hall.
Jason will remain as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
Frank and the Troop Committee will be soliciting help from the adults to help run the Troop.
