SCOUTMASTERS REPORT: January 21st will be our “cold weather” camping trip, which will be at Cloudland Canyon. To date, 10 scouts have signed up. Cost is $8.00. We may need additional adults to help drive.

February will have a cycling trip to Stone Mountain Park and will include an overnight there.

March will feature a backpacking trip along part of the Appalachian Trail.

April will have a canoeing trip. We are planning a “warm-up” at Camp 175 prior to this.

Two of our Eagles will celebrate their Court of Honor at the banquet.

There was no advancement last month, possibly due to the Holidays.

HI-ADVENTURE:

PHILMONT we have not received a slot for the 2006 season. Maybe 2007.

NORTHERN TIER CANOE HI-ADVENTURE none planned for this year.

SEA BASE HI-ADVENTURE two scouts have expressed interest for this year.

SCOUT LEADER TRAINING: Soapstone District is planning on conducting a 2006 training session on the 4 Thursday evenings in February. Time is 7:30 to 9:30 PM Overnight camp is at Bert Adams on the first weekend in March. This is a very rewarding experience for any adult that wishes to participate. Contact Frank for info.

CAMP 175: The camp is in relatively good condition. Some groups have expressed interest in utilizing the camp in March and April. Buz was reminded that the church has a standing invitation to utilize the camp.

BANQUET: The annual banquet will be on Friday, February 3rd. Cost is free to scouts. Harry has worked on an opening ceremony that will require some scouts to act as color guards and will also need a snare drummer and piano player. We would like to project pictures from a computer onto a screen. If anyone has a projector that interfaces with a computer, please contact Harry, Eric or Jim. Webelos from neighboring packs are invited to join us at the banquet. Cost is free to the Cub and a nominal $8.50 charge for any accompanying adult.

REGISTRATION: If you haven’t done so, please send your registration money in so that we can properly register our troop.

OLD BUSINESS:

BANQUET: The 2006 banquet is just around the corner. This will be held Friday, February 3, 2006 at 6:30 pm at our sponsoring organization, the Decatur First United Methodist Church. Please RSVP to Harry as soon as possible so that we can get an accurate count and provide ample food. (remember the 13th Scout Law – a scout is hungry)

We still need a few volunteers to help out with serving during the dinner. Please contact Eric.

SCOUT SUNDAY:  Scout Sunday will be on February 19th at the Decatur First United Methodist Church for the 11 am service. We would like to organize at 10:30. Wear the dress uniform (Class A).

This is a positive way we can show our appreciation to our sponsoring organization.

NEW BUSINESS:

Ma y 6th there will be a CPR program at Bert Adams from 9-2. Those who took lifesaving or are planning on taking it this summer will need CPR.

The circus will be having scout nights on February 16, 17 and 19. Tickets are $10 for the 16th and 17th shows or $15 for the 19th show.

If you are interested in helping out as a merit badge counselor, please see Frank.

Remember that the last Tuesday of the month is fire building. Since these Tuesdays have been less hectic than others, Frank will try to award all merit badges and rank advancements at this meeting. Also, boards of review will be steered toward these Tuesday s.

Four scouts will be working on their Eagle projects in the next month. Please plan on helping them out. This is a good way to get service hours.

Buz will be coordinating with the Church to work on the God & Country awards.

Next meeting is February 6th at the Scout Hut. 7:30 pm.

RECOGNITION:

Troop 175’s Andy Anderson received the Soapstone Ridge District Award of Merit at the recently held district banquet. T175 had 9 Scouters in attendance to help honor Andy’s efforts.

Respectively submitted,

Jim Paulino

Ps: Remember, if you have a “MULTI MEDIA PROJECTOR” we can borrow for the banquet night, please let us know. Harry.
